  1. The article by Malin et al presents interesting new evidence pertaining to the potential role of presenilins in the brain. The authors data are consistent with the hypothesis that presenilins regulate neuronal K+ channel expression which suggests the possibility that presenilin mutations might profoundly alter neuronal excitability and thereby contribute to cognitive decline in AD. This is a reasonable hypothesis and the study is important in that it probes directly into the functions of presenilins in the CNS which is an essential step toward understanding their potential role in the neuropathology of AD.
