Association of prior stroke with cognitive function and cognitive impairment: a population-based study.
Arch Neurol. 2009 May;66(5):614-9.
PubMed.
This is a very informative population-based study examining the role of stroke and APOE genotype to cognitive impairment in persons without dementia. APOE genotype was associated with MCI of the amnestic type while stroke history was associated primarily with non-amnestic MCI. These findings help explicate the relationship of two etiologic factors to clinically distinct types of cognitive impairment.
