  1. The authors investigated the impact of animal-assisted intervention (AAI) and pet-robot intervention (PRI) on behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) by meta-analysis. Two meta-analyses on AAI and BPSD and one meta-analysis on PRI and BPSD have been published previously.

By pooling studies of AAI and PRI, the authors revealed significant positive effects of AAI and BPSD at least on the depression component of BPSD. Although the number of studies included is still low, the study showed significance of AAI and PRI on BPSD. The article refers to neurobiology of dementia and possible mechanisms of AAI and PRI in dementia, and may potentially become a leading article in the field. The results presented are of value and fill a gap in the field.
