Second Call: Five Ph.D. Positions in GenomMed Doctoral Program (Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions Co-Fund Program)

The University of Eastern Finland, Faculty of Health Sciences, is seeking five doctoral students/early stage researchers for its genomics and mechanisms in translational medicine programme (Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions Co-Fund Program). The GenomMed Program will provide the selected ESRs with multidisciplinary research skills described in more detail at the program web site:

In line with the European Charter for Researchers, applicants will have the freedom to choose their research topics within the research focus areas of GenomMed and with a host supervisor. Short project descriptions have been written by the supervisors, and applicants can consider taking them as a starting points for their research proposal.

Scientific training and research is divided into two main fields, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and neurosciences, connected by shared research questions and genomics approach and translational applications.

The positions begin in January–March 2018 and run for four years. The persons selected will be hired as early stage researchers by the UEF academic departments and schools. The main duty of the doctoral students is to complete their doctoral dissertations in accordance with their approved research proposal.

Salary is based on levels 2–4 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff in the salary system for Finnish Universities (€1,985.85–€2,475.31/ month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be up to 46.3 percent of the job requirement component. The salary is determined on the basis of the phase of the doctoral dissertation and the person’s personal performance. A probationary period applies.

Applicants should be qualified to pursue postgraduate studies, i.e., to have completed a suitable higher university degree (MSc or equivalent in a relevant field).

Early stage researcher positions are always filled for a fixed term (UEF Administrative Regulations, Section 30). Persons finalising their higher university degree may also apply (degree must be finished by 3 December), but are required to submit their degree certificate and transcript of records by 15 December 2017. The ESR positions may be applied for by persons fulfilling the mobility requirement of the MSCA actions.
