50 percent effort: Behavior Phenotyping Resource Management. Manage the mouse-behavior resource in Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. Responsibilities will include developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control, coordinating resource scheduling, maintaining the instrumentation, providing training to investigators, performing the behavioral assays, and handling general accounting and financial management.

25 percent effort: Project Management. Develop and implement new experimental procedures and validate their utility; design and execute laboratory protocols; compile and analyze experimental results; prepare data summaries; document experiments by standard laboratory record keeping.

10 percent effort: Lab Management and Administration. Coordination with multiple researchers in the lab, including independent training and supervision of laboratory personnel such as technicians, rotating and summer students, and postdocs. Maintain SOPs, research data records and inventories, interface with vendors and service personnel, oversee lab upkeep and maintenance.

15 percent effort: Overseeing mouse colonies. Training lab staff in the day-to-day management of the mouse colony.  Overseeing the colony and ensuring records, training, and experiments are accurate and being done per the protocols.


Substantial experience with mouse behavioral testing is required.

Experience planning and managing the logistics of long-term mouse experiments, including overseeing the maintenance of multiple breeding colonies, is required.

Expertise with immunohistochemistry, biochemical and gene expression assays, microscopy, and mouse tissue analyses is required. Experience with mouse stereotaxic surgical procedures is a plus.

Experience teaching undergraduate science students is a plus.
