Description

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the Roy lab at UC San Diego for projects involving gene editing and gene therapy in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Knowledge of molecular/cell biology, biochemistry, and animal handling is required. A general approach in the Roy lab is to develop simple cellular models of normal and abnormal biological phenotypes and test predictions from these models in vivo.  Key publications using this approach are listed here: http://www.roylab.org/publications.html.

Current projects include novel uses of CRISPR-Cas9 in cellular and in vivo model-systems of neurodegenerative diseases and use of iPSCs to explore human cell biology and gene therapy.

Requirements

The candidate must be motivated to pursue basic biomedical research and discover new things. S/he should have a doctorate degree in cell/molecular biology or a relevant area with at least one significant publication (regular journals or bioRχiv). Knowledge of molecular/cell biology, biochemistry, and animal handling is required. Candidate must be able to work collegially with others and is expected to hold him- or herself to the highest ethical standards. Women, minorities, and disadvantaged candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
