The Thathiah laboratory in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who is passionate about neuroscience and disease-related research to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s Disease. The position is ideal for a person who is interested in understanding the relationship between the accumulation of DNA damage, DNA repair mechanisms, and neurodegeneration in AD. The aim of this research is to investigate DNA repair mechanisms in postmitotic neurons in response to DNA damage with the goal of developing effective strategies to prevent or slow the progression of age-related neurodegeneration and neurodegenerative diseases. We use a multidisciplinary approach, combining genetically engineered mouse models with molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques to study potential disease-causing factors and pathways involved in AD.


A recent Ph.D. in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, or related field and proficiency in molecular and biochemical approaches is required. Prior experience in a relevant research area, e.g., DNA damage signaling and repair, is preferred. Experience with cell and neuronal cultures is preferred. Experience with mouse handling, including injection, dissection, and behavioral approaches, is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, technical expertise, and scientific creativity are essential.
