Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Description: With UCB's emphasis on breakthrough science evidenced by an above industry average R&D spend, the New Medicines Department plays a crucial role in both the design and delivery of its corporate strategy and has currently an opening for a: Postdoctoral Fellow (three-year-contract) In Braine L'Alleud, Belgium.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Neurosciences Therapeutic Area Department at UCB Pharma. The research focuses on elucidating the shared mechanisms underlying cognitive impairment and epilepsy.

More specifically, the postdoc will study a mouse model of epilepsy associated with cognitive impairment to understand the differences and similarities between cognitive impairment in epilepsy and in Alzheimer's disease and to evaluate the response of their seizure and cognitive phenotypes to both epilepsy and Alzheimer drugs. The results of this project will determine the type of compounds and/or the elements of pathology that must be targeted to improve seizure control and cognitive function with applications to both epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease.

This position is based in Braine l'Alleud, Belgium and has a duration of 36 months, with a starting date during 2013.

Requirements: Candidates should have a PhD degree in the field of Neuroscience or related disciplines, with a track record of innovation and scientific accomplishments demonstrated by publications. Strong expertise in animal experimentation in the field of cognition, with experience in behavioral testing, in vivo pharmacology and immunohistochemistry, is required. Prior experience with Alzheimer's disease mouse models is an asset. The applicant should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong work ethic and the ability to interact and collaborate with others. English fluency is required.
