Job Title: Director, Scientific Programs and Outreach

The Alzheimer's Association is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and successful scientist to serve in the role of Director of Scientific Programs and Outreach. This key role will provide operational and scientific leadership targeting Association events and initiatives and programs such as Alzheimer's Association TrialMatchTM , Alzheimer's & Dementia, The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association, the Alzheimer's Association International Conference, the International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment, Facts and Figures while assisting the Vice President in strategic tasks as requested to achieve the science agenda of the Alzheimer's Association.

Specific responsibilities include: managing the daily operations of the Alzheimer's Association TrialMatchTM program and work closely with Programs Department; provide scientific leadership and management of Alzheimer's & Dementia, the Journal of the Alzheimer's Association; translate and direct the understanding of external audiences to the current and future challenges of Alzheimer's science and Support VP in the daily operations of AAIC and ISTAART by working closely with Conference Services and Membership/Society departments.

Requirements: Interested candidates who meet the following criteria are warmly invited to apply.
  • Outstanding ability to effectively communicate complicated science and research issues to various audiences, including laypersons and media in one on one and group settings ranging from 10 to 1,000 people.
  • Experience with hospital and/or clinical populations related to Alzheimer's disease or dementia.
  • Direct experience in conducting Alzheimer's disease research, preferably clinical in nature.
  • Proficient at managing complex relationships with external and internal stakeholders and assist in cultivation of collaborations for the advancement of the Association mission and science program initiatives.
  • Knowledge of creating and leading programs designed for clinical or social/behavioral intervention.
  • Ability to provide leadership, coaching, and operational direction as appropriate to diverse staff.
  • Preferred experience with clinical trial recruitment in clinical setting.
  • Understanding of IRB, FDA, and HIPPA guidelines.
  • Experience analyzing clinical trial protocols to develop clinically appropriate communication tactics to support patient recruitment.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD/MD in neuroscience related area or social and behavioral science
  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively convey information across technical/scientific/non-scientific audiences inclusive of written presentations
  • Ability to translate scientific findings into applied processes
  • Ability to present scientific information to non-technical audiences
  • Experience managing technical/professional staff
  • Experience in writing/reading/analyzing scientific publications
