Description:

The Scientific Advisor works within the Alzheimer Society
('AS') federated structure and collaborates closely with
provincial partners, AS colleagues and external partners
(including Canadian and international Scientists and
researchers) to provide timely interpretation (e.g.,
background information, commentary and opinion) relating to
dementia research. Ultimately, the Scientific Advisor will
serve to improve the Alzheimer Society of Canada's ('ASC')
ability to interpret and promote research within the ASC/AS
Federation, to stakeholders, the media and to the public. In
carrying out their work, the Scientific Advisor recognizes
that the diversity of dementia research is best represented
by the authoritative expertise of an equally diverse and
representative group of researchers and clinicians (i.e.,
Research Ambassadors).
- Develops and manages the ASC Research Ambassador
program.
- Acts as an organization-based knowledge broker, to
facilitate the advancement of ASC/AS Federation practice
(including in information, support, education, fund
development and marketing and communications), by
interpreting and disseminating research information relating
to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
- Acts as an ASC/AS Federation media spokesperson on
research-related issues relating to Alzheimer's disease and
other dementias.
- Acts as resource to ASC/AS Federation on
research-related issues relating to Alzheimer's disease and
other dementias and research in general.

Requirements:
|
- Graduate degree in science or health-related discipline
(Ph.D preferred).
- Ten (10) years of experience in a health research
environment, with a preferred emphasis on Alzheimer's
disease and/or other dementias.
- Significant experience in an organization closely
aligned with, and focused on, scientific advancements.
- Experience working within complex organizations with
multiple stakeholders.
- Experience communicating complex research topics in
language to a diverse audience.
- Media experience, including television, radio and print
interviews.
- Clinical experience is preferred, but not required.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will
be considered.
- Preeminent knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and other
dementias, including biomedical, quality of life, clinical
and other aspects of the disease(s).
- Comprehensive knowledge of scientific research and
studies throughout the research community.
- Sophisticated relationship-building, networking and
negotiating skills.
- Fluent bilingualism (written, verbal, comprehension) is
strongly preferred.
- Strong skills in consensus-building and persuasion, with
the ability to effect and influence change.
- Established network of relationships with the relevant
scientific/research community, on a local, national and
international basis is preferred.
