Job Title: Associate Researcher
Employer: University of California, Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders, Irvine, California
Description: The Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders is seeking an Associate Researcher who has extensive research experience working in the area of molecular biology and pathology of neuronal degeneration using animal models and cell culture systems to advance the understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders. The professional researcher series at UCI is designed for scientist who engaged in independent and creative high quality research. Applicants should therefore have a proven track record of consistent publications in this area and independent funding.

The candidate will lead projects that focus on ocular pathology (particularly on retinopathies) in Alzheimer's disease as well as other neurological disorders and to examine whether pathological changes in the eye (retina) directly reflect the lesions in the brain and to test if these changes in the eye can be used as a biomarker for brain damage. The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in the areas of biochemistry and molecular biology, and have expertise in histopathology, neuroscience, ophthalmology, and drug discovery research. Experience in animal models of Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, and retinal degeneration are highly desired. The candidate will be responsible for experiment design, data analyses, and preparation of manuscripts for publication. The candidate will also assist applying for additional independent and collaborative funding to support this research focus.

Requirements: A Ph.D. degree in one of the following disciplines: Neurobiology or Neuroscience with expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology and neurodegenerative diseases. At least 5+ yrs research experience working with mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease and retinal degeneration. This position will be appointed at the level that is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual candidate.
