The Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological
Disorders is seeking an Associate Researcher who has
extensive research experience working in the area of
molecular biology and pathology of neuronal degeneration
using animal models and cell culture systems to advance the
understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological
disorders. The professional researcher series at UCI is
designed for scientist who engaged in independent and
creative high quality research. Applicants should therefore
have a proven track record of consistent publications in
this area and independent funding.
The candidate will lead projects that focus on ocular
pathology (particularly on retinopathies) in Alzheimer's
disease as well as other neurological disorders and to
examine whether pathological changes in the eye (retina)
directly reflect the lesions in the brain and to test if
these changes in the eye can be used as a biomarker for
brain damage. The ideal candidate will have considerable
experience in the areas of biochemistry and molecular
biology, and have expertise in histopathology, neuroscience,
ophthalmology, and drug discovery research. Experience in
animal models of Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease,
Parkinson's disease, and retinal degeneration are highly
desired. The candidate will be responsible for experiment
design, data analyses, and preparation of manuscripts for
publication. The candidate will also assist applying for
additional independent and collaborative funding to support
