The University of California, Irvine’s Institute for Memory
Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) is seeking
an individual who has extensive experience (4+ yrs) working
in the area of immunotherapy using animal models to advance
the understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other
neurological disorders. The professional researcher series
at UCI is designed for scientists who engage in independent
and creative high quality research. Applicants should
therefore have a proven track record of consistent
publications in this area and independent funding.
The candidate will lead projects that focus on
immunotherapeutic intervention in Alzheimer’s disease animal
models to test if early immunotherapy affects the formation
of beta amyloid plaques, Alzheimer’s type pathology found in
the animal models, and decreases microgliosis and
astrogliosis, to possibly benefit cognitive function. The
ideal candidate will have considerable experience in the
areas of biochemistry and molecular biology, and have
expertise in immunology and neuroscience research. Excellent
communication skills, and a background in immunological
approaches to advance the understanding of Alzheimer’s
disease and other neurological disorders are highly desired.
Experience in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease with an
extensive record of publications in the areas of Alzheimer’s
disease research and immunotherapy is also desired. The
candidate will be responsible for experimental design,
statistical analyses, and preparation of manuscripts related
to the study’s findings. The candidate will also assist in
preparing progress reports and applying for additional
independent and collaborative funding to support this
