Job Title: Faculty Position in Vascular Cognitive Impairment
Employer: University of Kentucky, Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, Lexington, Kentucky
Description: The University of Kentucky in Lexington invites applications from board-eligible or certified neurologists for a full-time faculty position in vascular cognitive impairment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The primary responsibility will be to develop an extramurally-funded clinical/translational research program applicable to age-related neurodegenerative disorders of the cerebral circulation. This key position will link extensive resources and expertise in aging and Alzheimer’s disease with strong programs in stroke, cardiovascular disease and translational science in place at the University of Kentucky. This position is an excellent opportunity for an early-stage clinician-scientist to move this important field forward. The position offers 80 percent protected time for research/education/academic development and 20 percent clinical service in the Department of Neurology clinics, allowing for maximal academic career development.

The position will reside in the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, an established research center in aging and dementia that houses a leading NIH-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Center (ADC), with extensive resources and opportunities for collaboration with basic and clinical scientists. The position will also be associated with a faculty appointment in the Department of Neurology. The individual will play an integral role in the ADC, actively following a large cohort of research subjects that serve as a ready pool of research subjects available to the candidate to promote their independent and collaborative research projects. The Sanders-Brown affiliated Commonwealth Center of Excellence in Stroke encompasses a comprehensive program of clinical stroke care and clinical research. Other closely affiliated programs include the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute, the Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Center, and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science.

Requirements: Evidence of a high degree of academic motivation and talent is expected. Candidates must have a MD or MD/PhD degree, and further training and/or experience demonstrating outstanding achievement. Candidates will be expected to develop an externally funded, independent research program, and have evidence of scholarly output commensurate with the level of their appointment. Evaluation of applicants will begin June 2012.
Contact: Highly motivated and talented individuals should submit their applications, as a single PDF file, that includes a complete CV, a brief statement describing their area of expertise and career goals, current and future research plans, and the names and contact information of at least three references to: SBCOAFacultySearch@uky.edu.
