By Bart DeStrooper

Bart DeStrooper Abstract: This presentation focuses on the cell biology of the presenilins. The role of presenilins in the cleavage of type I integral membrane proteins, the turn-over of beta-catenin and possibly other functions in trafficking and Ca2+ signaling are discussed. The novel proteins associated with the gamma-secretase complex are presented.

For a detailed review the reader is referred to "A Cell Biological Perspective on Alzheimer's Disease" published in Annu Rev Cell Dev Biol. 2002 May 16 [epub ahead of print].
