AD HYPOTHESES
Our collection of virtual seminars, on-line journal club discussions, recorded
talks and other presentations on the Forum web site that describe a variety of
scientific hypotheses about the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Readers are
invited to submit their own hypotheses and especially to consider and debate how
this diversity of ideas and data could be integrated into a more complete picture
of the disease.
The Hypothesis Factory is devoted to the
presentation and exchange of ideas regarding novel hypotheses, hunches,
theories-in-progress, etc. This is a forum where people with original or
unconventional ideas can publicly present and discuss them.

FORUMS

As with any active field of inquiry, Alzheimer research is constantly producing novel
discoveries, not to mention its share of simmering disputes, controversies and
conflagrations. We host regular Live Discussions to explore hot topics with leading
investigators. Each discussion includes a written review of the issue, posted comments
and a scheduled live chat event, which is free to all.
In our Interviews, we ask opinion leaders to discuss and critique their favorite
hypotheses, set out priorities for research, and dream a bit about what they would
do if they had unlimited funding.

ENABLING TECHNOLOGIES

The Alzheimer Research Forum is involved with organizing an annual invitation-only workshop on Enabling Technologies for Alzheimer Disease Research. Summaries and recommendations are posted under Workshops, and readers are invited to comment and follow up on recommendations. Research Tools offers an index of web sites with information, downloadable software, databases and other web-based technologies for AD research.

COMPENDIA

To help researchers stay up to date and have one-stop access to important resources,
we have compiled these databases and listings. These currently include a searchable
database of antibodies used in Alzheimer disease research; a list of genes that have
been investigated for a role in AD and related disorders; lists of mutations in the
three known familial Alzheimer disease genes and in frontotemporal dementia (FTDP-17);
a directory of transgenic mouse models; and a list of patents on AD-relevant laboratory
reagents, methods, genes, transgenics, diagnostics and therapeutics.

RESOURCES

Practical information for the Alzheimer researcher, including postings of academic
and commercial jobs; conferences; a library index of online journals; and federal and
foundation grants that provide funding for AD research.
