Transgene: Tau gene transgenic mice expressing human tau proteins were generated
by microinjection of PAC 24i13 (Genome Systems Inc., St. Louis) containing the entire
human TAU gene (approximately 200 kBp).
Mutation:
Promoter: Human tau
Mouse Strain: C57BL/6 x SJL hybrids and C57BL/6
Neuropathological Analysis:
The mice have increased immunoreactivity to most tau antibodies with some somatodendritic
relocalization. No tau aggregates are present. All six of the tau mRNA protein isoforms
are expressed and the level of all human tau proteins is 3-4 times higher than the
level of endogenous mouse tau protein.
Behavioral:
Hemizygous mice breed normally; homozygous mice have a low level of pregnancies
with smaller litters.
