This interesting paper brings together the tyrosine kinase fyn, tau, and Abeta. The authors position fyn upstream of tau, with Abeta oligomers triggering, via fyn and tau, a rearrangement of actin, which causes a redistribution of Abeta on the cell surface, which in turn leads to neuronal cell death. This is another important example that demonstrates that it is the cellular compartment in which 'toxic proteins' end up that determines whether these proteins can exert their toxicity or whether they are prevented from doing so.
