Solerte et al report that the ability of cortisol to suppress natural killer cytotoxic activity is reduced in AD and postulate that this may lead to natural killer dysregulation and cytokine-mediated natural killer overactivity in AD. It is unclear whether the altered ability of cortisol to suppress natural killer activity is a cause or effect of the disease process and therefore it is difficult to evaluate the significance of these findings.
