This paper advances what is known about the ApoE-mitochondria nexus. It provides mechanistic insights potentially relevant to Alzheimer disease. It is worth the read.

The authors in this paper show that acetyl-L-carnitine and R-α-lipoic acids serve as effective antioxidants that potentially reverse the human ApoE4 allele induced age-dependent pathology in AD and other age-related diseases. ApoE4 transgenic mice closely resemble AD cases, and by comparing cerebral blood flow in wild-type and ApoE4 transgenic mice, the authors clearly paved the way for developing potential therapeutics for ApoE4 allele-related AD.
