So long forgotten, interest in the APLPs is slowly growing. This
paper clearly demonstrates that overexpression of APLP1 leads to a
dramatic change in APP processing, causing a decrease in β
processing and an increase in α-processing. Although many
questions remain unanswered, differential regulation of APLP/APLP2
and APP could provide a novel route for a therapy facilitating an
increase in APPsα (a putative neuroprotective agent), while
simultaneously achieving a decrease in the neurotoxic Aβ.
