Transgenic mice overexpressing human SOD1 carrying a Gly93–Ala mutation were used. This line of mice has the high-expressing form of mutant SOD1 and animals develop disease onset at about 90 days of age and die about 30 days later.
Primary antibodies were used as follows: rabbit anti-gal (1:1,000, Europe BioProducts); rabbit anti-CGRP (1:3,000, Sigma); mouse anti-ChAT (1:1,000, gift from B. K. Hartman and C. Cozari); CD3-T cells (1:50, Dako); P7/7-MHCII (1:100, Dako); goat anti-Glut-1 (1:20, Santa Cruz Biotechnology); and rabbit anti-albumin (1:250, ICN/Cappel).
