Not enough attention is paid to normal mechanisms of protein turnover as a contributing factor in neurodegenerative diseases. Mutations involving ubiquitin ligases are the first of many proteins that are likely to be invoved in ubiuquitin-mediated degradation of proteins that accumulate in abnormal amounts in the CNS.
