  I recommend this paper

This suggests that a "preclinical phase" of Alzheimer's disease exists that precedes the diagnosis by 10 or more years. Others have found that individuals whose memory or other cognitive skills are comparatively weaker than their peers are more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease.
