	Loss of memory trace-linked, postnatally born neurons has important implications for understanding the role of adult neurogenesis in normal and neuropathological age-related cognitive decline. It would be important to establish whether in Alzheimer's disease, impairments in neurogenesis are manifested by loss of new neurons following memory formation and/or by the inability to generate or recruit enough new neurons for learning and memory.
