We are seeking a highly team-oriented and motivated individual who will be a key contributor to the overall success of the Research Department. The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership to identify and validate novel drug targets and transition them into small-molecule drug discovery programs. The candidate will lead a small team of biologists in exploring cellular pathways implicated in CNS neurodegenerative Disease. This position will report into the Director of Biology.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team of biologists identifying new drug targets in the area of neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on neuroinflammation
  • Add core technical and target ID/validation competencies to the biology group
  • Hands-on experimental work and training of colleagues
  • Active evaluation of drug programs for in-licensing
  • Initiate and manage collaborations with academia and contract research organizations
  • Transition targets into small-molecule drug discovery programs and develop screening cascade concepts
  • Represent the biology function in cross-functional program teams


Ph.D. in biology, cell biology, pharmacology, or related discipline with at least five-eight years or more of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Must have experience in managing a small team. The successful candidate has a breadth of experience with target identification and validation using a variety of technologies, with an emphasis on methods in cell biology. Strong expertise in in-vitro assay development required. Experience with chemical library handling and cellular drug screening a plus. A strong background in neurodegenerative disease biology and/or (neuro-)inflammation is essential. Project leadership/management experience preferred, as is experience with academic collaborations. Proven track record of scientific rigor through publications. Must have very good communication skills and must embrace teamwork managing various internal and external activities.
