This position is an opportunity to join the neurology research team and support projects in the area of neurodegenerative diseases, with an emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease, tauopathies, and Parkinson’s disease. A significant amount of the work will involve in-vivo studies, using transgenic and viral rodent models. Responsibilities will include development and characterization of new models of neurodegenerative disorders, as well as designing, running, and analyzing studies to evaluate the properties and efficacy of drug candidates.
This position will require interaction with multiple groups within Biogen Idec R&D, and excellent interpersonal skills are mandatory.
Qualified applicants will have experience in animal models of neurodegeneration, with significant surgical skills, handling and dosing of rodents, and experience in tissue collection, histology, and a variety of biochemical analytical methods (gel electrophoresis, Western Blot, ELISA, protein extraction). Knowledge of microscopy techniques (brightfield and immunofluorescence) and of the most recent image analysis methods using virtual microscopy highly desirable. Qualified candidates must have the ability to maintain detailed written records of research, analyze and interpret data, and work within a team.
A Ph.D. in neurobiology or similar relevant field with two to three years of postdoctoral or industry experience and a track record of scientific publications is desired. Exceptional candidates with an M.S. degree and more than eight years of relevant work experience considered.
