We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist who is interested in working in a multi-disciplinary team at the forefront of translational Alzheimer's disease research.
Our aims are to develop new in-vivo diagnostic and prognostic positron emission tomography (PET) biomarkers. The focus of the research studies will be computer-aided molecular modeling of interactions between the target enzyme and several modified analogs of its native substrates as pharmacophore models. Various analyses will be conducted, such as active-site docking and binding-mode analysis, chemical library and molecular design, 3D-quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) analysis, and activity prediction, and hit or lead optimization.
3D-QSAR based on comparative molecular field analysis to generate novel R-groups for substrate analogs and to predict their biological activity or potency, ligand-based virtual screening of compounds library, and tailored docking to a particular target site to improve rank ordering of ligands. The quality of fit of novel compounds by scoring functions, expressed as logP, bioavailability F, pKa, etc.
The environment provides excellent postdoctoral training in an international working environment, national and international collaborations, and possibilities to publish in high impact journals.
To qualify, the applicant must hold a non-Swedish Ph.D. degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in medicinal chemistry, theoretical/computational chemistry, structural biology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, or related disciplines. Documented experiences in the fields of molecular modeling and Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD) and experience of using SYBYL Suite or similar software packages. Established record of high-quality scientific research and publications. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a collaborative, scientific team. The successful candidate will also be expected to have excellent verbal and written English skills and to write and apply for grants.
The candidates should have completed their Ph.D. degree within three years before the last date for application. Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this should receive equal priority if special grounds exist.
Postdoctoral scholarship will be awarded and the position is available immediately. The duration of the scholarship is up to 24 months. Educational scholarship are restricted for postdoctoral studies and may be awarded for up to two years in the five years following the public defense (or equivalent) of a doctoral thesis.
The scholarship amount is approved for six months at a time, is paid monthly and is exempted from Swedish income tax. Scholarships may not be given to anyone who in the two years before the proposed award of the scholarship has received a salary or remuneration from Karolinska Institutet.
