Description
The laboratory of molecular cell biology (Professor Jochen Walter) in the Department of Neurology, University of Bonn, Germany invites Ph.D. candidates to apply for PhD a position that is available now and is funded till the end of April of 2020 by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
The laboratory investigates the molecular mechanism underling Alzheimer disease development by focusing on the cellular metabolism of amyloid precursor protein (APP), presenilin/γ-secretase, and lipids such as cholesterol and sphingolipids. For further information, please see https://neurologie.uni-bonn.de/forschungsbereiche/neurodegeneration-alzheimer-s-disease.htm.
In the new project titled “Role of γ-secretase in cellular cholesterol metabolism” (PI: Dr. Naoto Oikawa), the candidate will engage her-/himself in research on molecular lipid pathology upon AD-related γ-secretase dysfunction/APP metabolism by employing cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Specialized analyses, such as mass spectrometry of lipids and electrophysiology of the neurons, are performed in close collaboration with other research groups by utilizing iPS cell-derived human neurons of the patients.
Requirements
Candidates experienced with iPS-cell cultivation are highly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate can join in the graduate school, such as Bonn International Graduate Schools (BIGS).
Please submit applications (including CV, copies of education certificates, a brief summary of previous research experience, a motivation letter, and contact information for two references) via email as a pdf to Naoto Oikawa.
Closing date for application is July 31, 2017.
