Development Status: investigational in U.S.
FDA Phase: Inactive
Primary Medical Role: May enhance the function of high-affinity choline uptake system and acetylcholine release in the central nervous system.
Role in Alzheimer's Disease: Cholinergic signalling is sharply reduced early in the course of AD, MKC-231 may increase the amount of choline available to synthesize acetylcohline.
Contraindications: n/a
Side Effects: n/a

Notes: MKC-231 development and testing in Alzheimer Disease has been discontinued, in favor of being tested for Depression and Anxiety disorders. This record last updated Dec 19, 2008.
