COMPANIES

Welcome to the ADDF/Alzforum Drug Discovery Database. This resource
is intended to assist basic scientists who would like to develop their discoveries
into diagnostics and therapies. The database contains information on companies that
offer products and services for translational research, such as assay development,
drug libraries, drug screening, computational modeling and consultation on biotech
startups. The database also includes pharmaceutical, reagent, research model, and
biotech companies that are involved in and support the development of Alzheimer
therapies. The Alzforum thanks the Institute for the Study of Aging for its generous
financial support and technical and scientific advice on the database and tutorial.

DRUG DEVELOPMENT TUTORIAL

The ADDF/Alzforum Drug Discovery Tutorial provides an introduction
for academics and other researchers who are new to the field of drug discovery.
The tutorial outlines fundamental concepts and processes of drug discovery. Our
goal is to guide researchers toward the steps necessary to translate benchside findings
into bedside applications, and to locate resources that can help provide reagents
and services needed in this process.

DRUGS IN CLINICAL TRIALS

Some two dozen compounds are currently in clinical trials, and more
are coming into the pipeline every year. We track all compounds that have reached
Phase II (that is, they have passed Phase I safety trials). Although by definition
these are not yet proved to be effective, they offer added possibilities for treatment.
