SRIs are now considered by many the first line drug for depression in the elderly,
because of their favorable side effect profile (however, SRIs infrequently cause
nausea, vomiting, agitation, akathisia, sexual dysfunction, and appetite changes).
Of special concern to clinicians in the context of the elderly is the many interactions
SRIs have with other medications.
