Primary Medical Role: Potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease.
Role in Alzheimer's Disease: May improve cognitive function in AD patients by activating central cholinergic transmission.
Pharmacological Role: Enhances the activity of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors by interacting with a protein kinase C pathway and accelerates acetylcholine turnover and release.
