Researcher Bio
With background in physics and molecular biology spent first 15 years of research in the field of virology. Worked with Bunya- and Arenaviruses, and later with Hantaan viruses. In 1986 discovered and mapped with co-workers the APP gene and since then stayed in the AD field. Lost a bet to John Hardy by discovering the first PrP mutation in CJD (I did not believe that PrP mutations are related to CJD). Showed involvement of proteasome in APP degradation. Correctly predicted the association of ApoE isoforms with amyloid load. Postulated and proved the sequestration hypothesis of Abeta. Made APP movies in real time in live cells.

See Medline and Web of Science for the most referred papers.
What is the greatest void to date in our knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease?
1) What cause AD in patients without mutated genes?
2) How to cure AD?
What are the top three papers (not yours) you have read recently?
The first paper by A. Alzheimer.
If resources were not limited, what research projects would you pursue?
The origin of non genetic AD.
What is your leading hypothesis?
It constantly changes.
What piece of missing evidence would help prove it?
Hard data.
What is your fallback position?
???
