Researcher Bio
Sergey Olegovich Bachurin graduated from Moscow State University (MSU) in 1975. During the period of
1975-1980, he was a graduate student and employee of the Chemical Enzymology chair, MSU. In 1980, Bachurin defended a Ph.D. dissertation on ''Chemical Kinetics and Catalysism'', and doctor of science degree in "biochemistry" in 1993. From 1981 until the present time, he has been working at the Institute of Physiologically Active Compounds Russian Academy of Sciences
(IPAC RAS). Since 1986, he has been the Head of Laboratory of Neurochemistry. Since 2006 he is the Director of this institute.S. Bachurin has been an invited scholar at the
University of California, San Francisco, USA (1992) and at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, USA
(1995). He is a member of Scientific Councils of IPAC RAS and some other institutes, member of RAS Scientific Council on Biomolecular and Medicinal Chemistry, and Vice-Chairman of the Russian Society for Medicinal Chemistry.
During the last 5 years, S. Bachurin has been the Principal Investigator of 12 international and five Russian grants. He is also the author of more than 100 publications and about 20 patents.
He is a key inventor of novel promising medicine for Alzheimer's disease treatment - agent dimebon.
